In a tweet on Twitter on Saturday night, Kanye West announced he is running for President of the United States on the fourth of July weekend.
We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION

The controversial rapper Kanye West has stated in numerous interviews over the past few years that he was preparing for a career in politics, but until this point, there was confusion over whether or not West was running for President in 2020.
In a Twitter post on Saturday night, West sent out a Tweet to his followers that read, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States … #2020VISION.”
The Twitter post has so far garnered over 600,000 likes.
However, a 2020 run would be a virtually impossible mission for West and it’s not clear if he’s serious.
An incredibly late Fourth of July announcement means West has missed every single state filing deadline for the two major parties and nearly all state primaries. Although he could register as an independent in some states, he has missed at least six state filing deadlines to register as an independent candidate, including several with some of the most electoral college votes, like New York and Texas.
West has consistently talked about running for president in the past. In 2015, he first announced his bid for the White House at the MTV Video Music Awards while accepting the Video Vanguard Award, USA Today reported.
“It’s about ideas, bro. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth,” West said during the rambling speech. “And, yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
However, Kanye West previously said that he wouldn’t run until 2024, The Independent reported.
“If I decide to do it, it will be done, I’m not going to try,” the rapper and fashion designer said in a radio interview with Power 92 Chicago’s DJ Pharris, adding: “Yes, 100 per cent it could happen… 2024.”
So what could we expect from a President Kanye?
During a 2018 interview with Power 92.3’s DJ Pharris Kanye promised that the medical industry would be strong under his reign as president.
“One of my main things [I’ll address] once I’m president is the medical industry. I’m going to make sure that the medical industry flourishes. There’s one thing I learned by hanging around with Jay-Z, and being married to my wife, is you can’t f**k up the paper.. That’s the problem with a lot of the radical leaders in the past,” he said.
Kanye has also expressed in the past that he wants to help the homeless by building low-income housing in California in an interview with Forbes.
The news was met with memes of disbelief and endorsement messages, including from his wife, Kim Kardashian West, who tweeted an American flag emoji. Elon Musk also tweeted he would support Kanye’s run for the presidency.
You have my full support!
